The Tivoli Theater located in Downers Grove, IL has a large historical significance. Built in 1928 by Gustave and George Bunge, the theater first opened its doors to the public on Christmas Day in 1928.
During opening day, there were 4,000 people lined up around the block to visit the theater. With 1,012 seats the theater was the second theater in the country. Contructed by Van Gurten and Van Gurten architects, the theater has been remodeled several times since it has been built to resemble a "French Renaissance - Style" theater since its inception.
Unlike many other historic theaters, the Tivoli Theater remains a one screen theater - most other historic theaters remodel to incorportate mulitple screens.
