Elmhurst College is located in Elmhurst, IL a western suburb of Chicago, IL. The college is affliated with the United Church of Christ and has tradition of service-oriented teaching. In 1871, Jennie and Thomas Bryan donate land in Elmhurst for the purpose of creating a school that taught seminary subjects to men. The school was named Elmhurst Proseminary. Students studied a variety of subjects such as, Latin, Greek, English, German, history, geography, music, mathematics, science, and religion of which all subjects were taught in German. It wasn't until 1917 that classes were taught in English as well. The college was renamed to Elmhurst Academy and Junior College in 1919. It wasn't until 1924 that the college was renamed Elmhurst College, a four-year college for men. Women started enrolling into college in 1930.
Now, the Elmhurst College campus is 48 acres large, has bachelor and masters programs with 50 different majors, and has about 3,500 students enrolled at any given year. The college is often ranked as one of the best colleges in the Midwest by a large number of sources. The college has over 100 student organizations, 5 sororities, and 3 fraternities.
