Chicago's O'hare International Airport is located on the far northwest side of Chicago, IL. Originally, O'hare was constructed in 1943 to build airplanes for the United States Military.  In 1945, the airport was named Orchard Field Airport (ORD) and chosen to meet future avaitation demands.  In 1949, the airport was renamed O'hare International Airport to give recognition to Edward O'hare a WWII Medal of Honor recipient and the U.S. Navy's first flying Ace.

During the early 1950's, Midway Airport, the cities primary airport at the time was becoming overcrowded and could not meet the growing demand for travel.  At this time, the City of Chicago made plans to develop O'hare Airport as the primary aiport in Chicago.  Commercial passenger flights didn't start until 1955, and in 1957, the City of Chicago had over $25 million dollars invested in the airport.  Operated by the City of Chicago Department of Aviation, the airport is located mostly in Cook County; however, there is a small part located in DuPage County.  It is also adjacent to Rosemont and Schiller Park.

O'hare has been ranked "Best Airport in North America" for 10 years in a row by Business Traveller Magazine and Global Traveller Magazine.  It is recomended that you arrive to the airport at least 1 hour before a domestic flight and 2 hours before an international flight.  You can visit the O'hare portion of the website to check on your flight.

Ground transportation to and from the airport is easy to find.  You can take the Chicago "L" train connecting in the city, the Metra lines that connect suburbs to O'hare, by various buses, and by taxi and limo services.  O'hare aiport is located less than 15 miles from the Comfort Suites of Lombard - Addison Hotel.  It is a perfect accomodation to stay on a budget during flight delays/cancellations!
